fashion designers anna plunkett & luke sales

Ever since forming, the duo behind fashion label Romance was Born have stood out from the crowd. Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales met at East Sydney Technical College and went to Italy after winning a competition, but turned down the prize of an internship with John Galliano. As designers they have focussed on creating clothes that embrace theatricality and transcend trends. They have collaborated with artist Del Kathryn Barton, and actress Cate Blanchett appointed them costume designers for a production at the Sydney Theatre Company.

Which five words best describe you? Decorative, colourful, sometimes crazy, pretty.
How did you get your career start and what path have you taken since? We entered a competition called ITS#4 (International Talent Support) which was sponsored by iD magazine and Diesel when we finished college. We were selected and went to Italy to participate, that's how we started working on Romance Was Born.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt along the way? Follow your gut instinct.
What’s your proudest career achievement? Walking down the street in matching RWB koala jumpers and seeing another girl in a kolala jumper of ours!
What’s been your best decision? Getting a business coach and finding an amazing production co-ordinator.
Who inspires you? Jenny Kee, Linda Jackson, Jeanne Little, Dame Edna, and our mums.
What are you passionate about? Bespoke doughnuts, cake decorating, our friend Tessy's new haircut inspired by the band Japan.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in the characters of Eddie and Patsy from Ab Fab.
What dream do you still want to fulfil? Visit every Disneyland there is.
What are you reading? Beginner's guide to meditation.
