frontliners extra: inez garcia

Believe it or not, even though she had been recommended to me, I was a little reluctant to contact fashion stylist Inez Garcia for Frontliners. You see, she sounded a little too fabulous - the name, the job title, the industry she works in - and I thought I might get some attitude, or a quick rebuff. I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only did Inez agree to be part of the project but when I met her, she was incredibly sweet, warm and funny. And there was definitely no fashionista attitude (perhaps the good ones are actually secure in themselves and so don't need to give off those prickly vibes). As I'm sure you'd agree from the photos we took on the day we visited her home, Inez has great style, as well as an amazing portfolio of work. She is the fashion director for The Sunday Telegraph's Sunday Magazine.

Which five words best describe you? Grateful, passionate, cheeky, loyal, private.
What was your first job and what path have you taken since? Straight out of school, I was working for a merchant bank while completing my commerce degree. It wasn't a good fit but it wasn't until I left that job and started working in bars that I began to meet photographers and stylists which opened my eyes to a whole new world.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt along the way? An editor once said to me "Don't come to me with a problem, come to me with a solution" It's so simple and effective.
What’s your proudest career achievement? Assessing my career achievements makes me squirm - I always think I can do better. I am very proud, however, that I have reached a point in my career where I have the ability to juggle my work and home life without feeling either is compromised.
What’s been your best decision? To leave my bank job to work in bars.
Who inspires you? My husband.
What are you passionate about? French fries and red wine, together.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? I couldn't decide. Tim Walker because I love the irreverence and eccentricity that he brings to his work. And Iris Apfel because I'd love to spend an afternoon rummaging through her wardrobe.
What dream do you still want to fulfil? To live and work overseas with my family.
What are you reading? The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.
