(design.inspiration) emma elizabeth coffey
I'm kicking myself that I haven't posted on Emma Elizabeth Coffey previously. You see, I had been in contact with her about a year or so ago, and then, well, life just got in the way. But never fear, because here she is. Her story is quite amazing, as is she. Emma Elizabeth has not only studied in Milan and had her design work showcased at Milan Design Week 2006, but has received a "we're interested in you and your work" phone call from the Philippe Starck Network. On top of all that, she works across everything from styling to fashion runway shows and events.
Which five words best describe you? Enthusiastic, Giggler, Creative, Passionate, Dedicated.
What was your first job and what path have you taken since then? As soon as I graduated from University in 2006 I jumped straight into working for myself and created "Emma Elizabeth Designs".
What’s your proudest achievement? Being the youngest Australian to have my own satellite show at Salone del Mobile within Zona Tortona in 2006 which I designed and constructed myself.
Who inspires you? Andree Putman and Yayoi Kusuma.
What are you passionate about? Life, design and style.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt? Never never never give up - Winston Churchill.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? Andree Putman and Yayoi Kusuma together - the three of us would have an outstanding conversation.
What’s next? I am off to Paris and Milan in April to shoot a few stories and to visit Salone del Mobile, and am commencing a new collection of bespoke furniture pieces.
What are you reading? Yayoi Kusuma: a book called Eternity-Modernity that I purchased from the MCA recently.
