designer dallas shaw

She paints. She prints. She does fashion. And notecards. I'm talking about Dallas Shaw, and I'm amazed by the amount of work she produces. Talk about dynamo. Dallas lives in Delaware in the US and has clients from coast to coast. I first came across her work - one of the cute and colourful prints - via real living but now that I've seen her prints on vintage paper, I'd love to buy one... or the tshirt. You can buy her products on etsy. Also, check out her blog and website.

Which five words best describe you? Creative, driven, motivated, hard-working, and, I hope, fashionable.
What was your first job and what path have you taken since then? When I really young, in high school I worked at my uncle's design group because it was the only way for me to be around art daily and learn while I was working. I tried to only take jobs afterward that were somehow art related. I drew with Walt Disney World's design group for a short time, and I was also an art teacher. All of those jobs taught me before I decided to go full time with my little business.
What’s your proudest achievement? Buying my first home with my husband.
What’s been your best decision? Leaving my first home, with my husband. We moved North recently to both further our careers.
Who inspires you? Stina Persson, Max Azria, Reem Acra. My work's inspired by fashion so I'm heavily influenced by designers' choices.
What are you passionate about? My work. I work 24 hrs a day right now, 7 days a week. But it's finally paying off. I have a new line of prints that came out last week and are doing well and in a few months a new tee line. Also working on a new collection of custom canvases. So right now I just work. And when I'm not working I figure out how to use my new camera.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt? You have to ignore negativity if you are going to be an artist. There are a lot of no's in the business and to be successful you can give up. And you need to surround yourself with people who will not let you give up.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? Diane Von Furstenberg. I have a million question I want to ask her. Someday.
What dream do you still want to fulfil? I want to do what I am doing right now on a much, much larger scale. I want to work in fashion at some point, somehow. I feel really proud of all that I have accomplished thus far so I can't say that I want a lot more - I do need to buy a second home.
What are you reading? I wish I had more time to read, but as you can tell I need to find some time for my husband and dogs. I read a lot of magazines: Instyle, Elle, you know I love
real living though it's hard to find here. I really love picking up Vogue from other countries. I can't understand any of it but the photos are always so stunning!
