artist sofia barao

Sofia Barao describes herself as a shadow collector, which is such a beautiful expression. It's not surprising, though, because not only is she an artist and photographer, but she's also a poet - in three different languages (Portugese, French and English). Three must be Sofia's lucky number because she also has 3 - yes, THREE! - blogs. Check them out here, here and here. Sofia lives near Paris, France, with her French husband.

Which five words best describe you? Creative, nostalgic, gourmand, romantic and passionate.
What’s your proudest achievement? To be living my life in France and to be doing what I want to do.
Who inspires you? Nature, people, time and the little things in life. I love the work of Christian Boltanski.
What are you passionate about? Art, photography, fashion and writing. They are the first things that come to mind, but I also love autumn, I’m in love with autumn and I’m a shadow collector, I love shadows.
What’s the best lesson you've learnt? To always trust your first feelings.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? My mom. She died when I was 13 and I would love to talk to her now as an adult.
What’s next? Exhibitions, new work, some more shadow chasing and also a new Etsy shop for handmade accessories.
What are you reading? I just finished Vonne van der Meer book
Bateu du Soir and I’m starting Pascal Mercier’s A night train to Lisbon, which among others things will bring back memories because I once made that same trip. But if I can recommend one of my favourite all times books The elegance of the hedgehog by Muriel Barbery must be the one.
