artist nicholas jones
The master creator Nicholas Jones.
Perhaps a little too much personal information - but there's something incredibly sensory about books being shaped into artworks. It's the untouched - well, for me (I almost cry when page corners are folded) - being shaped into beautiful objects that are equally out of reach. No grubby hands allowed! These works by Melbourne artist Nicholas Jones are exquisite and something I could happily stare at for hours - wondering at the words trapped within and the new form that has been created.
What five words best describe you? Dandy, Melbournese, bookish, dedicated, messy.
What's your proudest achievement? The birth of my beautiful daughter Thea Maeve, who is now five. Once you have had a child, it is impossible to say anything else!!
Who inspires you? I am inspired by my studio partner, the jeweller, Marcos Davidson, a baroque character of the first order.
What are you passionate about? I am passionate about knowledge, and the unbridled pursuit of it.
What's the best lesson you've learnt? "Nothing comes of Nothing" - King Lear.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? I am a big fan of everything Fin de Siecle French. So I would have loved to have met Alfred Jarry, Guilluame Apollinaire or Erik Satie. Ah, the Banquet Years!!
What are you excited about? The possibility of finding perfection.
What's next? Continuing to make more beautiful things and getting some of them seen overseas.
