HOME TOUR | Georgey Henshall
Who lives here & what they do..
We live here as a family, which includes myself, Georgey, my husband Jack, our son Ronny and our beloved Groodle, Seymour.
Home is…
Wherever we are together… and wherever my wardrobe is!
What inspired the design of your home?
Our vision was to make this house feel warm and full of light. Something that felt open and spacious, but without losing the cosy feel you want in a home. We both gravitate towards really simple designs with minimal clutter (without it feeling like a museum!). Mixing textures but keeping things tonal. Our kitchen cabinetry style and finish by Laminex was probably the core of our design and all other pieces like our tiles, benchtop, flooring & it flowed on from there.
What are some of the biggest lessons you learned while creating your home?
This is our third renovation over the past 10 years so we have learnt a lot over that time, but here are the top 5.
-Things can and will go wrong, it’s inevitable.
-Trust yourself and your vision.
-Get large samples before ordering (I learned this the hard way!)
-Know it will always cost more than you think/hope/budget for.
-Stop thinking painting yourself is a good idea. Hire a painter. (By the way, we have never listened to this advice)
What do you love about your home?
We love so many things about our home, but it’s the smaller moments of living in it, that we love most. Like watching the sunset through our big window on a hot summer night. Firing up the pizza oven and entertaining in our backyard. Everything about our walk-in wardrobe. Afternoons spent baking in the kitchen. Basketball comps on our court. And most of all –spending time on our big brown sofa watching a movie!
What do you enjoy about living in Bendigo?
Both Jack and I have called Bendigo home for most of our lives and we love our community here. We have everything we need and more in this ‘small’ country town. Great food, wonderful local businesses to shop from, fabulous parks and gardens and so many community events that we can be a part of.
Plus we are only a stone's throw away from Melbourne when we want to get our city fix!
What does simple living mean to you?
No clutter! I really try not to buy things that I know won’t last long in our home and donate as much as I can if it doesn’t serve us anymore. We are a growing family, so the mess is sometimes inevitable, but we made sure nearly everything had a place when planning this renovation.
If you were to have a spare free morning, how would you spend it?
A jog into town, always ending up at one of our favourite coffee spots for a long breakfast.
What are three words that best describe you?
Creative, ambitious and loud. (And proud of it!)
What book can you recommend?
I love cooking and hosting (as my business HOSTED would suggest!) so, quite often we have family and friends over for dinner in our home.
I just bought myself and my sister copies of ‘Good Cooking Every Day’ by Julia Ostro. Her recipes are simply delicious and great for entertaining.
Also, please share 3 of your favourite products from Imprint House.
Well, number one has to be the Cloud Linen Round Pendant.
The centrepiece of our lounge and home. It works so perfectly!
Lume Wall Light In Natural
I love a wall sconce – especially the Lumes organic shape.
Ceramic High Edge Plate
I am a sucker for a dining set! Our cupboards are busting with ceramics I have collected over the years. This collection from Imprint has my name all over it!
