(design.inspiration) tim clift

Can you believe, I'm still making my way through all the people I bookmarked from the recent trade shows. One of the companies that impressed me was Swell Textiles. The colourful prints kind of remind of the ones that you often see in American interiors - you know, the homes from Domino or the fabrics from Amy Butler. Tim hand screenprints the fabrics with water-based inks.

Which five words best describe you? Creative, diplomatic, caring, cautious, sentimental.
What was your first job and what path have you taken since then? My first full-time job was a junior in a design company (if you don't count working in a petrol station while going through graphic design college). I worked in a dark room most of the day making bromides which are now, thankfully, a thing of the past.
What’s your proudest achievement? Managing to run my own graphic design business for 13 years and still pay a mortgage.
Who inspires you? Anyone who has the confidence to follow their dreams and make a success out of doing something they love.
What are you passionate about? Music - I can't imagine living or working without it - I find it hard to be creative myself without music in the background.
What’s the best lesson you’ve learnt? Patience - nothing happens overnight.
Which person, living or dead, would you most like to meet? In the land of the living, probably Chris Martin from Coldplay. He has a wonderful, warm energy about him and is so absorbed by what he does. Would love to meet Henry the Eighth, as I am fascinated by English history, but would want to be careful about what I said - wouldn't want to lose my head!
What’s next? Who knows? Hopefully a thriving fabric design business!
What are you reading? Currently escaping into a world of teenage vampires in the Twilight series.
